FLASH FLOOD WATCH

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of piedmont North Carolina and
western North Carolina, including the following areas, in
piedmont North Carolina, Alexander, Catawba, Cleveland, Davie,
Iredell, and Lincoln. In western North Carolina, Avery, Burke
Mountains, Caldwell Mountains, Eastern McDowell, Eastern Polk,
Greater Burke, Greater Caldwell, Greater Rutherford, McDowell
Mountains, Mitchell, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains, and
Yancey.

* through Saturday morning

* Rainfall of 2 to 3 inches is possible across parts of the region
overnight, with some locations possibly receiving up to 5
inches, mainly along and just to the east of the Blue Ridge
Escarpment. The rain may fall in a short enough period of time
to cause flash flooding.

* The heavy rainfall will cause streams to rise quickly and some
might come out of their banks. Urban flooding may also occur in
locations that have poor drainage. If more than 5 inches of rain
were to fall, some locations along the Blue Ridge Escarpment
could have isolated landslide activity, especially along
modified slopes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
