Wilmington Police arrest 21-year-old New Castle woman on DUI, gun charges

Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old woman on DUI and weapons charges after a traffic stop.
On June 4 at approximately 10:16 p.m., police received a call regarding a vehicle driving recklessly. Responding officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 1900 block of North Market Street. The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Shakira Wideman of New Castle, was found to be belligerent and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. She was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody without incident.
While removing Wideman from the vehicle, officers observed a gun box underneath the driver’s seat. The box contained a 9mm handgun, along with two magazines.
Wideman has been charged with the following offenses, in addition to a traffic violation:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence
  • Driving Under the Influence
She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $30,000 unsecured bail.
