On June 4 at approximately 10:45 a.m., members of the Safe Streets Task Force observed a vehicle with an equipment violation traveling in the 100 block of South Harrison Street. Police stopped the vehicle, and officers detected an odor of marijuana as they approached the vehicle.
Through the course of their investigation, police learned that the driver, 31-year-old Luther Sellers, was on probation. Administrative searches of the vehicle, as well as Sellers’ residence and another vehicle, were conducted with Probation and Parole officers with the assistance of other members of the task force.
Police recovered a .22-caliber, semi-automatic pistol; a 9mm semi-automatic handgun; seven 9mm cartridges; six bags of marijuana totaling 72 grams; various drug paraphernalia; and $6,200 in currency.
Sellers was arrested without incident and has been charged with the following offenses in addition to a traffic violation:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited (Three Counts)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and given $103,050 unsecured bail for the above offenses. He was then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an administrative warrant.
