Deputies arrest Jarel Marquiz Elzy of San Bernardino for felon in possession of a firearm and violation of probation

LOCATION: 6th Street / Tippecanoe Street, Highland
SUSPECT(S): Jarel Marquis Elzy, 31-year-old resident of San Bernardino
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at about 3:40 p.m., deputies assigned to the Highland Police Department Multiple Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop on a gold Nissan Maxima containing two male occupants and a juvenile, in the area of 6th Street and Tippecanoe Avenue in the city of Highland for vehicle code violations.
The passenger, Jarel Elzy, had two open alcohol containers on his lap. Elzy is a convicted felon on active adult felony formal probation with active warrants for his arrest. Elzy was asked to exit the vehicle to be placed under arrest. As Elzy exited the vehicle, he concealed his left hand toward his back pocket. Deputies observed a handgun on the seat where Elzy was seated. Elzy was removed from the vehicle and handcuffed without incident. Deputies found the handgun to be a loaded 9mm Taurus.
Elzy was booked into the Central Detention Center and faces charges of felon in possession of a firearm and a violation of his probation. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in San Bernardino on June 6, 2019 to be arraigned for the new charges and June 7, 2019 for a violation of his probation.
