Active-Shooter Training Held at Local High Schools

Cadets from the Las Cruces Police Department’s academy are participating in active-shooter training Thursday and Friday at local high schools.

Training is taking place Thursday, June 6, at Onate High School while the Friday, June 7, training will be held at Mayfield High School. Training both days is expected to last from approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The training is closed to the public. The local high schools are not in session this time of year.

Graduation for LCPD’s 48th Academy will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 28, in the auditorium of the Dona Ana Community College, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd. The academy has 19 cadets including two who are being trained for the New Mexico State University Police Department.

The Las Cruces Police Department is currently accepting applications for its 49th Academy that’s set to begin in January 2020. Applications for LCPD’s upcoming academy are available online at https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/lascruces/jobs/2448947/police-cadet?page=2&pagetype=jobOpportunitiesJobs and must be submitted by June 24.
