LOCATION: Smart and Final, 27550 Baseline Street, Highland

SUSPECT: Gary Gray, 47 years old, Highland (transient)

VICTIM: Smart and Final

SUMMARY:
On June 3, 2019, at approximately 5:53 p.m. Highland deputies were dispatched the Smart and Final grocery store reference an armed robbery in progress. Callers stated a white male adult walked into the business, claimed he was armed with a gun, and demanded money. The suspect gained access to an open register and took several hundred dollars before fleeing the scene on foot. During an area check, deputies were flagged down by a nearby resident advising a male subject was hiding in her garage. Deputies contacted the subject in the garage and took him into custody without incident. The man was identified as 47-year-old Gary Gray and was identified by witnesses as the subject who robbed the Smart and Final. During the investigation, a deputy was taking pictures of Gray and he attacked a deputy and kicked him in the groin. Gray was transported to West Valley Detention Center without further incident.

Gray booked into West Valley Detention Center for Robbery and Resisting an Executive Officer and his being held on $100,000 bail.
