LCPD's Youth Leadership Summer Camp is on schedule with the second sessions set to begin June 17 and the third session on July 8.

Youth Leadership Summer Camp Underway, as Scheduled

The Las Cruces Police Department’s Youth Leadership Summer Camp is in the middle of its first 2-week session with the second sessions set to begin June 17 and the third session on July 8.

LCPD has been inundated with telephone calls and social media messages from parents asking when camp for their child begins. The camp session for their child begins on the date they signed up for.

There is no need for parents to call and confirm the date. If they registered their children for one of the sessions, they’re in.

Camps sessions are:

• Session 1: May 28-June 7.
• Session 2: June 17-28.
• Session 3: July 8-19.

The Youth Leadership Summer Camp runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day and is a collaborative effort with Dr. Blanca Araujo, the Stan Fulton Endowed Chair in Education at New Mexico State University. Drop-off and pick-up for campers is at Lynn Middle School, 950 S. Walnut St.

The camp provides youth with CPR and First Aid training, teamwork building, archery, crime scene investigation, D.A.R.E. and DWI simulations, anti-bullying and harassment lessons and other activities similar to the Character Counts module.

As a courtesy, the week before each session, LCPD school resource officers call parents of children whose session is approaching to confirm the date. For more information about the camp, parents may leave a message for Sgt. Robert McCord at (575) 528-4153.
