DATE: May 31, 2019

INCIDENT: Phone Scam

LOCATION: City of Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT: Unknown

SUMMARY: ************PHONE SCAM ALERT***************

On Friday, May 31, 2019, the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department received numerous reports from citizens stating they received phone calls from someone claiming to be from the police department. The phone calls appear to be coming from numbers that match the police department. The caller is advising victims they ignored a court summons and they need to report to the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department and sign an affidavit immediately to clear them off the list. The caller gives the victims an alternative to pay a $1,100 fee instead. Victims are instructed to go to Ralph's and buy a prepaid card and provide the caller with the numbers and the pin code on the card.

The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department does not and will not call citizens to ask them to sign an affidavit, or for payments of any kind. If you are a victim, please call our non-emergency number at (909)941-1488.
