Accreditation Team Invites Public Comment

Chief Mario Lattanzio announces that a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive on Monday, June 10, 2019 to examine all aspects of the Albany Police Department policy and procedures, management, operations and support services.  Verification by the team that the Albany Police Department meets the Commission’s state of the art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain nationally recognized accreditation.
As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 2:00pm in the City of Albany Library Community Room, 2450 14th Avenue SE, Albany, OR 97322. If for some reason an individual cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone.  The public may call 541-791-0333 on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 between the hours of 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards.  The CALEA standards manual is available to review upon request by contacting Accreditation Manager, Merab Smith, who can be reached at 541-791-0229.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Albany Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to:
Chief John Bruce
Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement
13575 Heathcoat Boulevard, Suite 320
Gainesville, Virginia 22030-2215 or email [email protected]
The Albany Police Department will show compliance with 356 applicable standards in order gain accreditation status.  Accreditation is for four years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with these standards under which it was initially accredited.
