DATE/TIME: May 30, 2019 / 5:00pm - 9:00pm
INCIDENT: Tobacco Sale to Minor
LOCATION: City of Chino Hills
SUMMARY:
On Thursday, May 30, 2019, personnel from the Chino Hills Police Department, in conjunction with a grant funded by the Department of Justice - Tobacco Division, conducted “Minor Decoy” enforcement operations at ten (10) businesses within Chino Hills. The Chino Hills Police enforcement operation was done to ensure local businesses were adhering to tobacco related laws and not selling tobacco products to persons under the age of 21.
Under this program, a “minor” under the direct supervision of police personnel, enters a tobacco retail shop and attempts to purchase tobacco products. Out of the ten (10) businesses visited, clerks at three (3) locations sold tobacco products to the underage decoy. The three (3) clerks were cited for the violation of California Penal Code 308(a)(1), Sale of Cigarettes to a Minor under 21 years of age. At the end of the investigation, the clerks were released pending their court dates.
The Chino Hills Police Department will continue operations to identify businesses as well as individuals who sell, supply, distribute or purchase tobacco related products for minors.
