Officer Involved Shooting

At approximately 2:18 PM dispatch received a phone call stating there was a female with a gun threatening to kill herself to the rear of the residence in the 400 block of West Maple Street, Ontario.

The police helicopter arrived and located the female to the rear of the residence standing on the roof of a small structure.  The female was holding a machete and a handgun. A male family member at the residence attempted to disarm the female on top of the structure but was unsuccessful. Officers arrived and saw the male and female struggling over the firearm. Fearing the female could harm the male, Officers and a police K-9 entered the backyard.

Once inside the backyard, a large dog at the location attacked the police K-9. Officers were forced to shoot the dog. Officers continued towards the rear of the property where the male and female were located. The female was armed with a handgun and metal pipe. The female advanced towards the officers and refused to put down her weapons. The female continued to walk towards the officers with the gun in her hand and an officer involved shooting occurred.

The Ontario Fire Department responded within two minutes and provided medical treatment to the female at the scene. The female was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

A handgun, machete, and metal pipe were recovered at the scene. The police K-9 was taken to the veterinarian for his injuries. No officers were hurt during this incident. There is no outstanding suspects.

The female’s identity will be withheld till the corner provides proper notification.
