INCIDENT: Operation Broken Heart

LOCATION: Highland

SUMMARY:

On Thursday, May 23, 2019, and Wednesday, May 29, 2019, members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Highland Station and San Bernardino County Probation Department participated in Operation Broken Heart. Operation Broken Heart is held in conjunction with the United States Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Office and Delinquency Program (OJJDP) and all 61 of the nation’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task forces. Operation Broken Heart takes place in the months of April and May, which targets those that exploit children.

During the operation, over 70 compliance checks of registered sex offenders in the city of Highland were conducted. The sex offender compliance operation included verifying the home addresses and other information of each registered sex offender.

As a result of Operation Broken Heart, it was discovered four sex registrants were out of compliance and two sex registrants moved from their last registered address. One sex registrant was arrested during the operation for being out of compliance. Investigators were unable to locate the other three out of compliance sex registrants and the cases will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
