SCV Sheriff's Detectives Investigating Home Invasion Robberies in Canyon Country; Seeking Public's Help

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's detectives are investigating two home invasion robberies that occurred Wednesday night in Canyon Country.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at approximately 8:55 p.m., deputies responded to the 17400 block of Blue Aspen Lane, for a reported home invasion attempted robbery. The two victims, a couple in their 60's, were having dinner when the back slider glass door was shattered. Four suspects entered the residence, three described as male adult blacks, and the fourth as a male adult (description unknown). The victims went to flee out the front door, yelling for help, however they were physically restrained by one or more suspects. The suspects then ran out the front door, fleeing in a dark-colored sedan. The two victims sustained minor injuries, scrapes and cuts, during the incident. At the time of the report, there was no property reported as being stolen, but it is still under investigation.

Around two hours later, at approximately 10:45 p.m, deputies responded to the 16700 block of Nearview Drive for a reported home invasion robbery. The victim, a female in her 70's, was in bed when she heard the sound of glass breaking.  A male black adult suspect allegedly entered her room, pointing a handgun at her and directed her not to move. The victim complied. She could hear two additional suspects ransacking the house.  After several minutes, the three suspects fled the location with several items that were stolen from the residence.

Anyone with surveillance cameras in the area or may have been driving in the area near the time of the crimes are asked to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Detective Bureau at 661-255-1121 ext. 5146. Video footage may be emailed to [email protected]

Tips to Protect You and Your Family Against Home Invasions:

  • Always make sure doors and windows of residence are secured. Have exterior of house well-lit with porch lights, motion sensor lights, etc.
  • Keep your keys and cell phone at a set location in home so that they are easy to access in case of emergency.
  • Have a plan. Talk to your family about a designated meet up space, it could be a place down the street where you can meet up in case of any emergency that required you to get away from the house. It could even be at a neighbor's home, yard, etc. Talk to your neighbor and let them know that they are your 'safe zone.'
  • If you can't leave home, secure yourself in a room in the house that has a landline, or take your cell phone with you. Call 9-1-1. If unable to talk for fear of someone hearing you, use the text to 9-1-1 feature.
  • If confronted by intruder, remain calm and cooperative. Your valuables are not worth your life.
