Wilmington Police arrest 15-year-old found with loaded handgun
Wilmington Police have arrested a 15-year-old who was found with a loaded handgun and resisted arrest.
On May 24 at approximately 10:50 p.m., members of the Safe Streets Task Force were in the 700 block of South Van Buren Street when they observed a suspicious 15-year-old male who walked away as officers approached. As police attempted to stop the juvenile, he reached for a 9mm semi-automatic handgun that was concealed in his waistband. Police were able to take him into custody without incident, and recovered the firearm – which had an obliterated serial numbers – along with eight cartridges of ammunition.
The 15-year-old male has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $15,500 cash-only bail.
