Wilmington Police arrest 17-year-old in stolen vehicle case
Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 17-year-old male in connection with a stolen vehicle.
On May 22 at approximately 3:30 p.m., police were called to the 300 block of North Scott Street in reference to a vehicle that had been stolen after it was left unattended while running.
At approximately 6:52 p.m. on the same date, the vehicle was located in the 200 block of North Scott Street. Police developed a 17-year-old male as a suspect in the case, and arrested him without incident at the scene.
The juvenile has been charged with receiving stolen property over $1,500, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a valid license. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Family Court and released on $2,400 unsecured bail.
Since January, Wilmington Police have reported that a majority of the vehicles that have been stolen in Wilmington – at times, nearing 80 percent – have been stolen after being left unattended while running or with keys left in the vehicle.
Police continue to urge the public to do their part to prevent vehicle theft, and to secure vehicles while unattended and to ensure that keys are not left inside of their vehicles.
