Wilmington Police arrest two juveniles in connection with car theft, assault investigations

A Wilmington Police investigation has resulted in the arrest of two juveniles in connection with several incidents in March and May.

On March 25 at approximately 5:33 p.m., police were called to the 1000 block of North Clayton Street in reference to a strong-arm robbery that had taken place. Officers learned that a victim observed juveniles loitering near her house. As she approached her home, the male juvenile pulled her to the ground and stole her purse before fleeing. The following morning, the victim found that her vehicle had been stolen from her property.

In a separate incident on March 26, a license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 500 block of North King Street.

On March 27, police recovered the stolen vehicle, with the stolen license plate displayed, in the 300 block of North Scott Street.

Through the course of their investigation, patrol officers and detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division developed two juveniles – a 16-year-old male and a 16-year-old female – as suspects in these incidents.

The 16-year-old male was located and arrested on April 1, and was charged with burglary (third degree), theft of a motor vehicle and conspiracy (second degree).

The 16-year-old female was arrested on May 19 in relation to an investigation of a theft from a vehicle in the 1300 block of North DuPont Street. She has been charged for that theft along with the above incident. Additionally, the juvenile female was developed as the suspect and charged in connection with a March 29 incident, in which a victim was pepper sprayed during an attempted robbery of her purse.

The 16-year-old female has been charged with the following offenses, inclusive of the above incidents:

  • Assault (Second Degree)
  • Attempted Robbery (Second Degree)
  • Theft Over $1,500
  • Conspiracy (Second Degree) – 3 Counts

She was arraigned on all of the charges in the New Castle County Family Court and was released on $11,000 unsecured bail.
