Petaluma PD Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Collision
On May 28, 2019, at approximately 8:42 AM, the Petaluma Police Department received a report from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) of a motorcycle collision in the area of Lakeville Hwy. and S. McDowell Blvd. Ext. According to the report CALTRANS employees cutting high glass along the shoulder of the roadway in the area discovered the collision scene and notified the CHP. The CHP notified the Petaluma Police Department and officers from both agencies responded along with the Petaluma Fire Department.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered a deceased male motorcyclist on the shoulder of the roadway. A motorcycle was also located in the immediate area on the shoulder of the roadway. Initial reports indicated there was possibly a second rider associated with the collision but after an extensive search of the area no additional subjects were located.
The Petaluma Police Department’s Traffic responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Based on their preliminary investigation and evidence located at the scene it appears the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a fence lining the roadway. While it does not appear that the motorcycle was involved in a collision with any other vehicles the cause of this collision is currently unknown. The collision appears to have occurred much earlier than the time of report, however, no reports regarding any collisions have been reported recently in that area.
The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. At this time the name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
