Wilmington Police arrest juvenile found with loaded firearm
Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 16-year-old found with a loaded firearm.
On May 17 at approximately 12:58 p.m., members of the Street Crimes Unit were in the area of 16th and Jessup Streets conducting a gun investigation when they observed a suspicious juvenile riding a bike. As officers approached the 16-year-old male, he jumped off of his bike and faced officers, clinching a black satchel that was in his possession. Police were able to take the juvenile into custody without incident, and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number in the satchel.
The 16-year-old has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $41,000 cash-only bail.
