Ian Bearup was arrested for Driving Under the Influence

SUSPECT(S): Ian Scott Bearup, 21-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms
VICTIM(S): Arteaga’s Mexican Food; The State of California
SUMMARY: Friday, May 24, 2019, about 01:56 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Morongo Basin Station, responded to the report of an unknown injury traffic accident, at Adobe Road, and Buena Vista Drive, in the city of Twentynine Palms. Deputies located a white Kia Rouge, which crashed into Arteaga’s Mexican Food Restaurant.
The vehicle crashed into the north facing wall of the restaurant, causing significant structure damage to the building. Deputies contacted the driver, Ian Bearup, and Ariel Mechado, who was the passenger in the vehicle. San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the incident location to evaluate the occupants of the vehicle. After being evaluated, it was determined neither Bearup or Mechado were injured during the collision.
Upon further investigation, Bearup was found to be under the influence of alcohol, which caused the collision.
Bearup was arrested for a violation of California Vehicle Code CVC 23152(a)(b) – Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Bearup was later booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga following a pre-booking health examination at High Desert Medical Center.
