Suffolk County Police today arrested an owner of a Brentwood day care facility for sexually abusing a child who attended the day care.

Jose Flores, the co-owner of Little Sponges Family Day Care, located at 3 1st Street, sexually abused a 7-year-old female earlier this year.

Following an investigation by Special Victims Section detectives, Flores, 56, of 3 1st Street, was arrested and charged with Sexual Abuse 1st Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

The Office of Family and Child Services shut down the day care center following Flores arrest.  

Flores was transferred to a hospital for treatment of a prior medical condition. He is expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 25.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have been a victim of Flores to contact the Special Victims Section through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
