Wilmington Police arrest juvenile found checking car door handles, ransacking a vehicle
Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 17-year-old male found checking car door handles and ransacking a vehicle.
On May 17 at approximately 3:09 a.m., police officers were on proactive patrol in the 200 block of West 14th Street when they observed a male attempting to open car doors in the area. Police then observed the 17-year-old man entering a vehicle and ransacking it. As they approached him, he initially fled on foot but was then taken into custody without incident.
Police have charged the juvenile with burglary (third degree) and attempted theft under $1,500. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on his own recognizance pending further proceedings.
Police remind members of the public to keep their cars secured and locked when unattended, and to remove valuables from plain sight. Those who observe suspicious activity are encouraged to contact police.
