News Release: Two Suspects in Custody for Home Invasion Robbery

Police arrested two juvenile male suspects responsible for robbing an elderly woman in her home Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 12:45 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a report of a home invasion robbery that had just occurred in the 900 block of Colorado Avenue.
The investigation revealed that two male suspects entered the residence by kicking in the side door and startling a woman in her seventies who was inside. The suspects demanded personal items including jewelry she was wearing and money. The suspects did not threaten her or display any weapons. After they stole her personal property, they went to the garage and stole her white 2004 four-door Honda Civic and fled with it.

A witness reported seeing a juvenile matching the description of one of the suspects waiting in a car while another male juvenile went door to door in the neighborhood just minutes before the home invasion robbery occurred. Another witness observed a silver 2002 Toyota Camry speeding away from the scene. That vehicle was stolen out of San Jose and was also connected to a residential burglary and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer in San Jose.

The Regional Auto Theft Task Force (RATTF) recovered the stolen Toyota Camry in San Jose and took one of the male suspects into custody. That suspect had the vehicle keys belonging to the Palo Alto victim in his possession. San Jose Police also located the other juvenile suspect in San Jose where he had just committed a residential burglary.

The suspects are 15 and 17-year-old male juveniles out of San Jose. Both were arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for robbery, burglary, elder abuse, conspiracy, and auto theft. The 15-year-old suspect is on juvenile probation out of Santa Clara County for vehicle theft, burglary, attempted carjacking, attempted robbery, assault and battery, and possession of burglary tools. The 17-year-old suspect is on probation out of San Jose for burglary, attempted carjacking, attempted robbery, robbery, vehicle theft, and tampering with a vehicle. The 17-year-old suspect was also arrested by San Jose Police for residential burglary, resisting arrest and battery on an officer.

The Palo Alto victim’s white 2004 four-door Honda Civic has not been located. It has a California license plate of 5JUD666.
