PSE&G project temporarily suspended on Madison and Jackson Streets

This morning, at the City's request to preserve trees from removal on Jackson and Monroe Streets, PSE&G agreed to temporarily suspend any pruning or removal of hazardous trees relating to the installation of new utility poles and wires. The City administration has requested a detailed plan and communication from PSE&G prior to the work resuming.  The City has asked PSE&G to take every measure possible to preserve the existing trees when the installation of the resilient poles and wires occurs. Additional updates will be presented to the public before the project resumes.

More information about PSE&G’s resiliency efforts:

Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) will begin installing new, sturdier utility poles in Hoboken along Madison Street and Jackson Street, as part of the company’s efforts to enhance reliability. PSE&G is rebuilding its electric system infrastructure to replace or supplement its 50-plus-year-old, 26,000-volt (26kV) lines to bring 69,000-volt (69kV) power throughout the state. PSE&G will install new, approximately 60-foot poles and run electric wires along an existing pole line to accommodate the higher voltage. To date, the company has installed more than 350 miles of sturdier and taller overhead 69kV circuit poles in more than 60 municipalities—69kV transmission lines are the standard of the 21st century and are needed to address increasing demand, reliability and storm preparedness.
