Newark Firefighters Extinguish 2-Alarm Fire at 16th Avenue
Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that members of the Newark Fire Division extinguished a 2-alarm fire at 173 16th Avenue this morning.
Shortly before 4:50 a.m., firefighters responded to the building, where they located the fire on the second and third floors and in the cockloft. The fire was upgraded to a second alarm at 5:52 a.m.
Some 21 residents were relocated as a result of this incident.
One firefighter is being evaluated for breathing difficulties. No other injuries have been reported.
The fire was considered under control at 6:27 a.m.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
