Narrative: | |||||
On May 10th, at about 4:52 PM, deputies from the Moorpark Police Station responded to Kohl’s department store located within the Moorpark Marketplace for a report of a forgery in progress. Upon the deputies’ arrival, they contacted Renee Laurel-Fandino inside of the store attempting to pass counterfeit currency. As deputies detained Laurel-Fandino, they learned two accomplices of Laurel-Fandino were still inside of the store. Detectives from the Moorpark Police Station responded to the scene and contacted Marcus Wilson who was attempting to remain undetected within the department store. Patrol deputies were also able to apprehend Torrance Adams within the department store. As a result of the deputies’ investigation, coupled with the assistance of Kohl’s Asset Protection Team, deputies learned all three subjects, Adams, Laurel-Fandino, and Wilson had acted in concert to commit a series of thefts from several Kohl’s department stores within Southern California. With the assistance of the United States Secret Service, deputies also learned this group had passed counterfeit currency at various locations throughout Southern California. All three subjects were arrested for PC 490.4(a)(2)/Organized Retail Theft and numerous other property crimes including PC 476(a)/ Forgery. The Moorpark Police Department has a very close working relationship with the local businesses in the city and actively works joint investigations with them in an attempt to prevent organized retail theft crews from committing crimes within the city. All three subjects are in custody in Ventura County Jail with bail set at $50.000. Their court date is pending. |
