Suspected Burglar Impersonating Law Enforcement

Sometime between May 3rd and May 7th, 2019, an allied agency law enforcement officer’s residence in the northeast part of Turlock was burglarized. Items stolen during the burglary included two bullet proof vests with Velcro removable patches that read “Sheriff,” “DEA,” and “Police,” a black Kevlar helmet, two handguns, and a rifle.

On May 8th, 2019, at about 1:00 a.m., a suspicious person was observed on a surveillance camera checking for unlocked vehicles in the 4000 block of N. Berkeley Ave. This subject was wearing a bullet proof vest with “Sheriff” on the front and back, along with a green uniform shirt and green hat. On May 10th, 2019, at about 12:38 a.m., the same subject was observed on another surveillance camera in the 1800 block of Alex Way. The male subject was again observed wearing the same bullet proof vest and a green uniform shirt.

This subject should be considered armed and dangerous. If the subject is observed, do not approach him. From a safe location, call 9-1-1 to notify the Police Department.

There have been no additional reports of someone impersonating a law enforcement officer in Turlock. If a member of the public is unsure that they are being contacted by a legitimate law enforcement officer, they can call 9-1-1 to report the activity. A Turlock Police Department Dispatcher will be able to verify if the contact is being conducted by a Turlock Police Officer. Citizens may also ask to see the officer’s police identification.

Citizens are reminded that it is a good idea to use outside lighting at night to prevent people from hiding in the shadows and to always remove valuable items from your vehicle and lock the doors. Having an audible alarm system installed on your vehicle and your house may also dissuade someone from burglarizing your property while you are away.
