A 17 year old is in custody after stealing a golf cart and driving recklessly through the streets of Apple Valley

SUMMARY:
On Thursday May 16, 2019, at about 6:55 PM, Apple Valley Deputies responded to reports of a juvenile who fled from a local group home. Group home staff members were following the juvenile when he ran onto the Ashwood Golf Course and took a golf cart from the clubhouse. The juvenile operated the cart on several city streets, driving through vehicular traffic and even driving against traffic at times. Several deputies responded to the area and the juvenile was located and detained at Deep Creek Road and Ocotillo Way. Deputies took him into custody and recovered the stolen golf cart, returning it to Ashwood Golf Course.
During the incident the juvenile operated the golf cart with no regard for the safety of other motorists, but thankfully no serious accidents occurred, and no one was injured in this incident.
The juvenile was arrested and booked at the High Desert Juvenile Hall for Grand Theft Auto.
