JEFFERSON COUNTY, OKLA. – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating an attempted suicide by an inmate that occurred in the Jefferson County, Okla., jail on May 14, 2019. Sheriff Jeremie Wilson requested OSBI assistance after current inmate Justin Edward Powers, 31-year-old, was found hanging in his jail cell. Video evidence shows Powers hanging himself with his clothing and a towel from his bunk.

A cellmate who had been sleeping while the incident took place, woke up and alerted staff. Jail staff then performed CPR on Powers and he was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Jefferson County. After being seen there, he was air lifted to the Trauma Center at OU Medical where he is currently on life support.
