PRESS RELEASE: 8th Annual Mark Vasquez Memorial Blood Drive

The Manhattan Beach Police Officers’ Association, in partnership with the American Red Cross and family of M.B.P.D. Officer Mark Vasquez, is presenting the 8th Annual Blood Drive for Officer Mark Vasquez.  This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Joslyn Community Center (1601 N. Valley Drive) in the City of Manhattan Beach.

Officer Mark Vasquez joined the Manhattan Beach Police Department in 2005 and worked as a patrol officer until he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer, in 2007.  Officer Vasquez was heroic in his positive outlook and will to win not only at work, but at home with his wife, Lee, and their two daughters, Madison and Ashley.  Officer Vasquez’s battle against cancer was valiant and at times, when he was able to return to work, he said he felt like Superman.  His fellow officers quickly nicknamed Mark “Superman” and held many fundraisers and events in support of their hero.  However, on May 15, 2011, Manhattan Beach Police Department lost their Superman on National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day.

Please join us and donate blood on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in memory of our Superman.  Your generosity could save a life.  To sign up, visit www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code “MarkVasquez.”
