Wilmington Police arrest wanted man found driving stolen vehicle
Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 29-year-old man wanted in several jurisdictions after he was found driving a stolen vehicle.
On May 7, police received a report of a vehicle that was stolen in the 600 block of North Rodney Street. On May 9 at approximately 8:19 p.m., members of the Street Crimes Unit observed the vehicle in the area of 2nd and Harrison Streets. As officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver – identified as 29-year-old Angel Mendez – struck a pedestrian sign and a parked vehicle at the intersection before fleeing on foot. Officers were able to take Mendez into custody without further incident.
Mendez was found to be wanted by the New Castle County Police Department, the Delaware State Police and the Plymouth, Pennsylvania Police Department.
His charges include receiving stolen property, possession of a prescription drug without a prescription, resisting arrest and driving while suspended or revoked. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and bail was set at $5,000 unsecured for those charges. He was also processed on his outstanding charges, and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings.
