Warrant Arrest - Felony Location: 3300 Block of El Camino Real

An officer observed a vehicle with expired registration tags in a parking lot on the 3300 block of El Camino Real. The officer conducted a DMV registration check. The results did not match the stickers displayed and confirmed the registration as expired. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop.

The vehicle was occupied by a male driver and female passenger. A Records check revealed the driver was on Post Release Community Supervision and had a felony no bail warrant. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Warrant Arrest Location: 2300 Block of The Alameda

A reporting party contacted Public Safety Dispatchers regarding a female subject loitering, and eventually sleeping behind a dumpster, on the 2300 block of The Alameda.

The responding officer contacted the subject. A Records check revealed the subject had seven bench warrants totaling $125,000 in bail. She was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Commercial Burglary Location: 2200 Block of Tasman Drive

An officer was dispatched to the 2200 block of Tasman Drive on the report of a prior commercial burglary.

Wednesday, May 8, 2019
Fatal Traffic Collision Location: Scott Boulevard and Jay Street

On Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at about 9:05 a.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Jay Street. A Nissan Altima was stopped at the traffic signal on southbound Scott Boulevard at Jay Street when it was struck from behind by a GMC Acadia.

The force of the impact was so great that it thrust the Altima forward into the intersection and caused significant damage to its backend. Both drivers and a passenger from the Acadia were transported to a local hospital.

On Friday, May 10, 2019, the driver of the Altima succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. He’s being identified as a 29-year old male resident of Santa Clara. Our initial investigation shows that the driver of the Acadia suffered a medical emergency immediately before the collision.

Scott Boulevard, between San Tomas Expressway and Space Park Drive, was closed for several hours during our investigation. The roadway reopened at about 1:30 p.m.

Drug Arrest Location: Northside Library, 695 Moreland Way

An officer was dispatched to the Northside Library on the report of a male subject trespassing.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the subject. A Records check revealed he had a misdemeanor warrant. A search of his person yielded a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Stolen Vehicle Location: 2400 Block of El Camino Real

An officer was patrolling a motel parking lot on the 2400 block of El Camino Real. A DMV record check identified a stolen vehicle.

A male subject exited a motel room and started to approach the stolen vehicle with a key in his hand. When the subject noticed the officer, he dropped the car key from his hand and walked away. The officer contacted the subject who identified a female subject associated with the vehicle. The male subject consented to a search of the motel room.

Officers attempted to hail the female subject from the motel room without success. Officers obtained a key to the room and located the female subject in the bathroom. A Records check revealed she had two formal grants of probation with search terms and four misdemeanor warrants. She was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Foot Pursuit Location: Calle de Luna and Calle del Sol

An officer observed a male subject on a bicycle traveling northbound on Lafayette Street. The bicycle did not have forward or rear facing reflectors/lights. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Calle de Luna and Calle del Sol.

The bicyclist disobeyed and began pedaling at a high rate of speed attempting to evade the officer. The bicyclist discarded the bicycle on Lick Mill Boulevard and fled on foot into the Ulistac Natural Area. The subject waded into the marsh and began swimming toward the levee between the Guadalupe River and Ulistac Natural Area before disappearing into a grove of tall tulle.

Responding officers and K-9 units established a perimeter and conducted an extensive search. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Officer helicopter, Star 1, was nearby and provided air support. The suspect remains unknown and at large.

Resisting/Obstructing Location: 500 Block of Mansion Park Drive

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Mansion Park Drive on the report of a suspicious male subject removing tires from bicycles inside an apartment complex and screaming at passing pedestrians.

Officers located a subject matching the reporting party’s description on the Guadalupe Creek Trail. The subject was accompanied by a second male subject. Upon contact, the subject in question became very combative and had to be taken to the ground. He was taken into custody and was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance. A search of his person yielded drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
