A 24 yr old Oakland man was arrested on Sunday after shooting another man multiple times in a San Leandro neighborhood. 

The incident occurred on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 12th, 2019 in the Washington Manor neighborhood. Just before 2:00 pm, San Leandro Police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Sayre St. regarding a fight between two men and one who had been shot. 

When officers arrived, they found a 26 yr old male victim in the front yard of a home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was alert and appeared to have been shot in the abdomen and lower extremities. Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the victim to the hospital. 

Officers on scene were told that the victim was shot by an acquaintance after and fist fight evolved at the house between the two of them over an unknown matter. The suspect fled the area before police officers at the location.

Officers quickly obtained information about the shooter and his vehicle and broadcasted the information to other surrounding units. Within minutes, a San Leandro Police Sergeant located the suspect driving near the Greenhouse Marketplace and was able to stop and safely detain the suspect, 24 yr old Mario Young. 

San Leandro Police detectives were called to the scene to resume the investigation. Detectives began interviewing witnesses in an attempt to understand more about why and how this incident unfolded. Detectives learned that the two men got into a fist fight in the front yard of the home and at one point, the suspect produced a gun and shot the victim multiple times at close range. 

The injuries to the victim do not appear to be life-threatening, however, he remains in a local hospital for extended treatments. Detectives continued to work throughout the evening searching and collecting evidence to complete their investigation. 

"This case is being investigated as an attempted homicide," said San Leandro Police Lieutenant Isaac Benabou. "I have to credit great police work by the initial investigating officers which led to the quick apprehension of the suspect." 

Today, the case went before the Alameda County District Attorney who charged Young with attempted murder and several other gun enhancement crimes. Young remains in custody at Alameda County's Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
