SMPD Arrest Two Juveniles for Burglarizing School

School burglars arrested after one San Mateo resident alerts police to suspicious behavior.

San Mateo, CA – On Sunday, May 12, 2019, at 6:32 P.M. San Mateo Police Department received a 911 call alerting police of a burglary in progress at Baywood Elementary School located at 600 Alameda de las Pulgas. The caller reported suspicious activity to police after they saw two juveniles loitering on school property after hours, carrying backpacks and wearing hooded clothing. Officers quickly flooded the area and apprehended the juvenile suspects as they were fleeing with the school’s electronic equipment in hand. All property was returned to the school and, in accordance with California law, the juveniles were released to their parents after arrest processing for San Mateo County’s Juvenile Court system.

Police have been in direct communication with Baywood Elementary School’s administration during this case. We want our community to know this was an isolated incident and all parties have been accounted for. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact SMPD at (650) 522-7700.
