Incident Time: Approximately 1347 hours (1:47 pm)
Location: AT&T Store, 301 South McDowell Blvd. #D

Incident Summary:

On Monday May 13, 2019 at approximately 1:47 pm, employees of the AT&T store in the Washington Square Shopping center called the Petaluma Police Department to report a subject in the store whom they believed matched a suspect in a theft of electronics at another AT&T store at the Petaluma Factory Outlets on May 7, 2019. Shortly thereafter, the robbery alarm was triggered at the AT&T store in Washington Square, and employees reported two suspects had stolen several iPads and iPhones from the display tables by cutting the security cables. No weapons were used/mentioned by the suspects during the theft. The suspects fled the store, got into a black Mercedes, and drove toward the freeway onramps on East Washington.

A Petaluma Police officer in the vicinity of East Washington Street and South McDowell Blvd. intercepted the fleeing Mercedes and attempted to pull it over. The Mercedes failed to yield and led Petaluma Police officers on a pursuit southbound on Interstate 101. The suspect vehicle exceeded 100 miles per hour during the pursuit and crashed into a gray Ford Mustang approximately one mile north of the exit to Olompali State Park in Marin County. (The California Highway Patrol subsequently investigated the collision).

A passenger in the Mercedes (Dareion Cole) surrendered to Petaluma Police officers at the scene of the crash. The driver (Frank Gray) and another subject (Patrick Gray) who are believed to be responsible for the theft from the Washington Square AT&T store fled from the disabled Mercedes toward open space/fields west of the freeway. Both were subsequently located and arrested without incident after a search which included officers on foot, a K-9 unit, and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s helicopter.

A search of the Mercedes led to the recovery of the stolen electronics from the Washington Square AT&T store.

All three suspects were in possession of cable clippers (466 PC) and Patrick Gray was found to have a felony no-bail warrant for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon out of Contra Costa County.

Dareion Cole was booked for Possession of Burglary Tools (466 PC) and released with a citation. Frank and Patrick Gray were booked for Burglary (459 PC), Resisting Arrest (148 PC), and Possession of Burglary Tools; Frank Gray was also booked for Felony Evading. The Grays were later transported to Sonoma County Jail.
