Duarte Crime Blotter for the Week of May 5-11, 2019

Dear Duarte Community:

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of May 5 through May 11, 2019.
 
May 05, 2019

  • A Vehicle Burglary was reported in the 3200 block of Conata Street. Between 10 p.m. on May 4 and 8 a.m. on the May 5, person’s unknown ransacked the interior of the victim’s vehicle. The victim found her trunk open, and her passenger door ajar. Some papers appeared to have been taken from the glove compartment, however, the victim was unsure if anything else had been stolen at the time of the report.
 
  • A Vehicle Burglary was reported in the 2600 block of Fernely Drive. Between 10 p.m. on May 4 and 7 a.m. on the May 5, person’s unknown broke into the victim’s vehicle and stole a pair of sunglasses. Due to no physical damage to the vehicle, it is unknown how the suspect(s) made entry.
 
  • Driving under the influence arrest:  At approximately 5 p.m., deputies responded to the 1600 block of Cinco Robles Street regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a parked car. During the investigation, the adult male driver was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and detained.  After further investigation, the driver was arrested for driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.

  • No significant activity.
 
May 07, 2019
  • A Vehicle Burglary was reported in the 2200 block of Huntington Drive. Between 5:30 p.m. on May 6 and 5:45 a.m. on May 7, unknown person’s shattered the passenger side window of the victim’s vehicle and stole miscellaneous garden tools. 
 
  • Weapons Arrest:  Deputies responded to a disturbance call at 1250 Huntington Drive (76 Gas Station), regarding an adult male bothering customers and refusing to leave.  Upon arrival, deputies detained the male described in the call. During the investigation, a handgun was located in the suspect’s backpack which was reported stolen by his father. After further investigation, it was determined the suspect was on probation for burglary and was a convicted felon, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm.  Based on the above, the suspect was arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and for receiving stolen property.       
 
May 08, 2019
  • Possession of a Dangerous Weapon Arrest:  Deputies detained an adult male in the 900 block of Buena Vista Street regarding a possible domestic violence call. During the investigation, the male was found to be in possession of a dagger and arrested. 
 
May 09, 2019
  • A Commercial Burglary was reported at 1406 Huntington Drive (Tropicana Market). At approximately 12:30 a.m., deputies responded to an audible alarm and found the front glass door shattered. They cleared the location, but no suspects were found. The business owner arrived, however, nothing appeared to have been stolen. The incident was captured on video surveillance, showing an adult male in a hoodie breaking the glass door with a crowbar and making entry. The investigation is on-going.   
 
  • A Petty theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). While conducting an inventory check, it was determined that a “Dyson” fan worth $449 was missing from the shelf and no sales transactions had appeared to have taken place. After reviewing surveillance footage, it was determined that on May 7, two adult females entered the store and placed a $14 fan and the $449 Dyson fan in their basket. Both females entered the self-check-out aisle and paid for the items in cash. After checking the transaction record, employees determined the females switched the barcode on the Dyson fan with another barcode for an item valued at $5.99.  The investigation is on-going.
 
  • A Grand Theft was reported at 1131 Central Avenue (CarMax).  Sometime between midnight and 2 a.m., unknown persons stole a tailgate from a Ford F-350 truck and two tailgates from two Toyota Tacomas. The total loss was estimated at approximately $4,000. The investigation is on-going.
 
May 10, 2019
  • Shoplifting Arrest:  1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  An adult female was detained by store security after observing her concealing approximately $396 in miscellaneous clothing and various other store merchandise. After further investigation by responding deputies, the female was arrested for shoplifting and the merchandise was returned to the store.           
 
May 11 2019
  • Narcotics Arrest:  At approximately 4:20 a.m., deputies observed an adult male riding a bicycle and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Encanto Parkway after observing a vehicle code infraction. Prior to the deputy conducting a pat down search, the male stated he had a methamphetamine pipe in his pocket. Based on his statement, he was detained pending a narcotics investigation. After further investigation, the male was also found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and arrested.
