Deputies arrest William Maze of Crestline for attempted murder after he fired several shots at a residence

DATE/TIME: May 11, 2019/9:30 pm

INCIDENT: Attempted Murder

LOCATION: 900 Block of Oak Drive, in the Community of Crestline

SUSPECT(S): William Drew Maze, a 61-year-old resident of Crestline

VICTIM(S): Confidential


SUMMARY: On Saturday, May 11, 2019, at approximately 9:30 pm, deputies from the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station responded to the 900 block of Oak Drive in Crestline, reference gunshots heard in the area. During the preliminary investigation, deputies located a truck with several bullet holes in the driver's door. The victim was standing near the vehicle when the suspect shot in his direction.

Through investigation, deputies were able to identify the suspect as William Drew Maze. For unknown reasons, Maze drove by the victim's residence and fired approximately 6 times in the direction of the victim with a 40-caliber pistol. Maze fired the weapon while seated inside his vehicle, then fled the area.

Deputies located Maze's residence in the 24000 block of Zurich Drive in Crestline and an arrest warrant was issued for Maze for the attempted murder of the victim. The Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) was contacted and responded to assist. With the assistance of SED, deputies apprehended Maze at his residence without incident.

During the investigation, a search warrant was served at the suspect's residence. During the search, the firearm used during the commission of the crime was located and recovered. Six shell casings were also located inside Maze's vehicle. Two additional rifles and rounds of ammunition matching the caliber used during the crime were also located and recovered during the search.

Maze was arrested and transported to Central Detention Center for the attempted murder of the victim. Maze is currently being held with a bail of $750,000.
