Intoxicated driver collides into parked cars and flees before being detained by Rohnert Park Fire Crew

On Saturday afternoon, May 11th, 2019 at about 3:35 PM, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received a 911 call from a citizen reporting that a red Camaro had collided into two parked cars in the 5200 block of Daniel Drive and then fled the area.  The Camaro was reported as having heavy front end damage.

Just prior to Patrol being dispatched to the call, the on-duty Rohnert Park Fire Crew at Station 2 was conducting training in front of the station when they observed a Camaro with heavy front end damage drive past them going northbound on Country Club Drive toward Golf Course Drive.  The Fire Crew, who are also sworn police officers, detained the driver and sole occupant of the Camaro in the parking lot of 911 Golf Course Drive until a patrol unit arrived.

The driver of the Camaro was identified as 24 year old Giovanni Valdez from Santa Rosa.  Valdez displayed the signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication and a DUI investigation ensued.  During the investigation it was learned that Valdez had been involved in a verbal argument with an acquaintance in the 5200 block of Daniel Drive and left in the Camaro after colliding into two parked vehicles belonging to another acquaintance.  The front license plate on the Camaro, in addition to half of the front bumper, fell off during the collision and was left behind on Daniel Drive.

Subsequent to the investigation, Valdez was arrested for DUI and was determined to have a Blood Alcohol Content of .13%. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail. All three of the vehicles involved had to be towed due to the extensive damage.
