Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that deputies of the Cass Co. Sheriff's Office apprehended a suspect wanted after a pursuit that spanned two counties (Van Buren and Cass). The suspect was pursued in a stolen vehicle in the early morning hours of 5-10-19. The stolen vehicle crashed on M40 south of Hoffman St. and the suspect fled on foot. After a search, deputies and a K9 officer could not locate the suspect. A few hours later, a local resident called 911 after finding an unknown person in a building on his property. This unknown person fled the scene. Deputies and a K9 from MSP Post 53 searched for the suspect and he was found hiding in a vehicle on another property.. He was taken into custody without incident. This suspect was later linked to the pursuit in the overnight hours. He was lodged in the Cass County Jail on charges for Fleeing and Eluding, Breaking and Entering, and Obstructing Justice. He has charges pending in multiple jurisdictions. The suspect's name is being withheld pending arraignment. Both incidents remain under investigation.
