IMPD Sergeant Awarded the Chancellor’s Medallion by IUPUI Chancellor Nasser Paydar

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Sergeant Matthew Steward has been awarded the Chancellor’s Medallion by IUPUI Chancellor Nasser Paydar.  The Chancellor’s Medallion is the highest award bestowed to an individual by the university and recognizes the 50th anniversary of the university’s founding. Chancellor Paydar cited Matthew’s sustained effort to engage, educate, and move our community through thoughtful discussions and dialogue in a meaningful and impactful way by creating and sustaining the Steward Speakers Power Series as a reason for awarding Sergeant Steward the Chancellor’s Medallion.

Sergeant Steward was presented with the award during the Steward Speaker 32nd Lecture Series and dinner at the downtown JW Marriott featuring world renowned actress Phylicia Rashad Thursday evening. Phylicia Rashad is most notably known as Clair Huxtable on the long-running NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. He was not aware of the recognition, but was instead surprised at the event.

The Steward Speaker Power Series has three pillars: education, engagement, and experience. There were approximately 700 people in attendance. Sergeant Steward oversees the IMPD Community Resource District Council and has over 35 years of law enforcement experience. Learn more about the Steward Speaker Power Series below.

Please join us in congratulating Sergeant Matthew Steward on receiving this distinguished award and for his ongoing efforts to educate, engage, and help others experience meaningful dialogue and cultural exchanges through the Steward Speakers Power Series!

MISSION AND HISTORY: (hyperlink)

The mission of the Steward Speakers Power Series is to inform, inspire, and foster meaningful dialogue and cultural exchanges. That is accomplished with exceptional lectures and events targeting youth, families, adult learners and others who rarely have access to nationally and internationally-renowned African American leaders.

These African American leaders are among the best and most respected individuals in their fields, including politics, education, the military, science and medicine, journalism, sports, entertainment and more.

It is the Steward Speaker Power Series sincere intent that the messages from the enlightened guest speakers resonate in some meaningful way with the greater Indianapolis community and its surrounding cities.

It is the Steward Speaker Power Series sincere hope that their sustained efforts to “keep the conversations going” will help bridge the gaps that exist between people of different races, ethnicities, genders, and generations.

For over 30 years, Steward Speakers Power Series has been dedicated to enhancing the community by providing opportunities to engage with America’s best leaders and brightest luminaries. The Steward Speaker Power Series provides an educational experience to young people, families, indigent and the adult learner who normally would not receive the opportunity to attend such events. Steward Speakers Power Series showcases lecturers of national and local prominence.
