Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Detectives from the Burglary-Robbery Task Force (BRTF) of the Major Crimes Bureau were taking part in a surveillance investigation of a vehicle in the 13900 block of Brookhurst Street in Garden Grove on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Detectives were investigating the involvement of the vehicle under surveillance, which may have played a role in several prior strong-arm robberies in and around southern Los Angeles County. Due to the investigation being in its early stages, the suspects had not yet been identified. The suspects’ involvement in the previous incidents remains under investigation.
Due to location and distance of the detectives, they were not in a position to physically intervene at the time of the suspects’ sudden and brutal robbery of the victim.
The detectives immediately summoned assistance. With the assistance of a Sheriff’s helicopter, the vehicle was followed to the area of Century Boulevard and the 110 Freeway. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, but were quickly captured by Los Angeles County deputies without incident. Several items of evidence, that were discarded by the suspects as they fled the area, were recovered.
