Narrative:
On February 15, 2019, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was investigating a Suspected Child Abuse Report and talked with female adult that disclosed she was molested by her step-father from the age of 9 to approximately 18 years old. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department determined the crimes occurred in Ventura County and authored a courtesy report for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
On February 19, 2019, the City of Thousand Oaks Police Department Investigations Bureau Major Crimes – Sexual Assault Unit received the report and began an investigation. During the investigation it was discovered the victim’s sister, was also a victim and had reported similar crimes in 2014, but later told detectives she did not want to pursue an investigation.
The investigation led detectives to the City of Lancaster, California and the state of Oklahoma where numerous interviews were completed. The investigation revealed Micah Smith had physically and sexually abused his step-daughters over a 13 year period.
On May 5, 2019, the City of Thousand Oaks Sexual Assault Unit concluded their investigation and arrested Micah Smith in the City of Camarillo without incident. Smith was arrested on 8 counts of 288(b)(1) PC – Forcible Lewd Acts Upon a Child.
Smith was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility. Due to the nature of the crime a bail increase was requested and granted. Smith’s bail is currently set at $3,600,000. Smith is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 7, 2019, at 1:30 PM
