On May 2, 2019, the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to a report of a possible threat posted on a social media application. The information was immediately investigated and the social media post was deleted. Patrol deputies and School Resource Officers quickly determined the student attends Los Cerritos Middle School and contacted him. Through investigation, it was determined that the information was not a threat. Deputies contacted the student and his parents at their residence in Thousand Oaks. School Resource Officers assisted school administrators with a notification late Thursday evening, informing parents that the school was safe and there were no threats directed at any student, staff member, or the campus. There was no impact on Friday’s school schedule. The Thousand Oaks Police Department recommends parents monitor their child’s use of the internet and cell phone applications to prevent misuse, which may lead to posting inappropriate or harmful information.
