Traffic stops lead deputies to drugs and guns

Deputy Robert Watson of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Holly Leighann Willis, 30, address listed as Stacy Farm Road in Marion, with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a concealed gun and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Watson also charged Robert Andrew Welch, 29, address listed as Meadow Ridge Drive in Marion, with possession of a firearm by a felon.
Shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, Watson was patrolling on Stacy Farm Road, when he noticed a Nissan Altima with a fictitious tag. He stopped the vehicle driven by Willis. Welch was the passenger.
A subsequent search of the car and both suspects turned up a pistol, a pair of brass knuckles, .84 gram of methamphetamine, 10.63 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
N.C. Highway Patrol troopers issued Willis citations for traffic violations.
In a separate but related incident two days prior, Deputy Steven McPeters charged Willis with possession of a stolen firearm.
On Friday, April 5, McPeters stopped a Ford Ranger truck on U.S. 70 East because the driver ran a stop sign. Willis was a passenger in the vehicle.
A handgun located in Willis’s purse was reported stolen from a Marion resident.
