SUSPECT(S): Jose Banuelos, 31-year-old resident of Burbank
VICTIM: Alexa Castillo, 30-year-old resident of Glendale
SUMMARY:
On Sunday, April 28, 2019, at approximately 03:04 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Morongo Basin Station, responded to the 56300 block of Twentynine Palms Highway, in Yucca Valley for a female subject being injured in a parking lot. The female, later identified as Alexa Castillo, was transported to an area trauma center for multiple injuries.
Through investigation, deputies learned Castillo was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Jose Banuelos, remained at the scene. Banuelos was arrested and booked into the Morongo Basin jail for driving under the influence and causing great bodily harm. Castillo later died from her injuries at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. The case was forwarded to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office. On April 30, 2019, Banuelos was arraigned for the charge of murder.
