Please be advised, nesting season has begun on Jekyll Island.
Upon crossing the causeway, please be alert for diamondback terrapins now through July, as they leave the water to nest. Turtle crossing signs are visible on the causeway and flash when a high volume of terrapins is expected. However, terrapins may be seen at any time.
The Georgia Sea Turtle Center staff will be monitoring the causeway daily during nesting season; should you see a terrapin, or have a concern, please contact them directly at 912-635-4070.
Please remember that swerving to miss terrapins and/or exiting a vehicle to assist a terrapin are both significant hazards and you should prioritize your own safety on the road.
