In an abundance of caution following the incidents in Sri Lanka, SCPD maintained a visible presence at places of worship today as well as public spaces where families may be gathering for the holiday.

Monday, April 22, 2019
Disturbance
Location: 3700 Block of Lafayette Street
Officers were dispatched to a report of a fight in progress on the 3700 block of Lafayette Street. Upon arrival, the officer observed a male subject being restrained by two citizens. The subject was detained in handcuffs while the officer conducted an investigation. It was determined it was a mutual combat situation, there were no injuries and neither subject desired prosecution. An informational report was taken, and both subjects were released at the scene.

Discharging a Firearm
Location: Pasetta Drive and Los Padres Boulevard
Officers were dispatched to Pasetta Drive and Los Padres Boulevard on the report of people shouting and shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located spent shell casings on the 2200 block of Pasetta Drive. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. No one was injured by the shooting. Through investigation, a suspect was later arrested and booked at the Santa Clara County Jail.

Residential Burglary
Location: 2300 Block of Roosevelt Circle
Unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s home through an unlocked rear sliding door and burglarized the home. The suspect(s) fled the scene after stealing approximately $4,815 in electronics. The suspect(s) remain outstanding.

Criminals look for homes that are an easy target, provide quick access and often seek items that can easily be converted into cash. Some things to be mindful of are…
• Open or unlocked doors, windows or sliding glass doors
• A garage remote in a nearby vehicle that can be used to provide direct access to the home from the garage
• A large pet door
Small, expensive items are usually the target - jewelry, laptops, guns, cameras, personal electronic devices and cash. Place family heirlooms, firearms and jewelry in a safe and don’t leave other valuables, such as electronics, out in the open for easy access.
Take simple precautions, such as locking windows and doors and removing garage remotes from vehicles, to prevent most residential burglaries.

Fatal Traffic Collision
Location: Saratoga Avenue
On Thursday, April 25, 2019 at about 9:48 a.m., a fatal traffic collision involving two vehicles occurred near the intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Los Padres Boulevard. A black Ford Fusion, travelling at a high rate of speed, struck a blue Ford Focus that had made a right turn from Los Padres Boulevard onto westbound Saratoga Avenue. The collision caused the Ford Fusion to roll over, strike a tree in the center median, and come to rest against a parked car on the north side of Saratoga Avenue. The collision also caused the Ford Focus to strike a parked car on the north side of Saratoga Avenue. The 22-year-old male driver of the Ford Fusion, who is a Sunnyvale resident, was transported to Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The female driver of the Ford Focus is a 77-year-old resident of Santa Clara. The driver had a complaint of pain and declined further medical attention. Southbound Saratoga Avenue, between Los Padres Boulevard and Cypress Avenue, was closed from the time of incident until approximately 2:30pm because of this incident and the subsequent traffic investigation. Identity Theft
Location: Larry Marsalli Park, 1425 Lafayette Street
An officer was dispatched on the report of a suspicious male at Larry Marsalli Park, 1425 Lafayette Street. Upon contact, the officer noted the subject resembled a suspect in a recent mail theft that occurred on the 1700 block of Lafayette Street. The suspect associated with the mail theft had not been located. A Records check revealed the suspect was on searchable probation. A search of his backpack yielded documents with personal identifying information that had been stolen from the 1700 block of Lafayette Street and burglary tools. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Commercial Burglary
Location: 2100 Block of Walsh Avenue
Public Safety Dispatchers received a call regarding a prior commercial burglary on the 2100 block of Walsh Avenue.
An individual arrived at their place of business and found the door was forced open. The suspect stole a computer, external data storage and client files. The suspect(s) remain at large.
