SCPD detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in East Patchogue early this morning.

Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in East Patchogue early this morning.  
 
Fifth Precinct officers responded to Montauk Highway, approximately 1000 feet west of Gazzola Drive, after a passing motorist called 911 to report a body in the roadway at approximately 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers determined the man had been struck by a vehicle. Detectives determined the bicyclist, Alexis Velasquez, was traveling eastbound when he was stuck by an eastbound vehicle that fled the scene.
 
Velasquez, 30, of Bellport, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
 
Detectives believe the vehicle that struck Velasquez is a silver or gray Nissan SUV with front-end damage and fled eastbound on Montauk Highway.
