CORRECTION: Tyrone Griffieth of Ontario is arrested for stealing a marked Sheriff's Department Patrol Unit

LOCATION: 14000 block of Merrill, Fontana
SUSPECT: Tyrone Griffieth, age 32 a resident of Ontario
VICTIM: San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department
SUMMARY:
On Friday, April 26, 2019, at approximately 4:31 pm, a deputy from the Fontana Sheriff’s Station was at a call for service in the 14000 block of Merrill taking a report. When the deputy completed the call, he found that his vehicle had been stolen from the location. Sheriff’s Aviation was immediately contacted to search the area for the stolen patrol unit. Rancho Cucamonga Police Department, Fontana Police Department and Ontario Police Department responded to assist in the investigation. Deputies obtained surveillance video that assisted in identifying the suspect as Tyrone Griffith.
At approximately 5:31 pm, Sheriff’s Aviation and Ontario Police Officers located the stolen patrol unit in the area of Orange and Rosewood, in Ontario. Officers and deputies responded to the area and located Tyrone Griffith in the surrounding neighborhood near the vehicle. Griffith was arrested without incident. No police equipment or weapons were outstanding.
The investigation is ongoing to determine how Griffith was able to take possession of the patrol unit.
