BECKHAM COUNTY MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED AND EXTRADITED TO ELK CITY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
April 25, 2019

ELK CITY, OKLA. – Gregory Killough was arrested by the OSBI and extradited to Elk City to face charges stemming from two Beckham County homicides. The 49-year-old Killough became a person of interest in the homicides of 46-year-old Monique Smith and 67-year-old Norman Burden after investigators discovered he had been seen with Smith within an hour of her death. Killough was arrested on two counts of First Degree Murder, two counts of Larceny of an Auto, one count of Animal Cruelty and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He was booked into the Elk City Jail.

Smith’s body was found in a parking lot in the 400 block of N. State in Elk City, Okla., in the early morning hours of April 21, 2019 and her vehicle was missing. At approximately 6:30 p.m., Smith’s car was seen in front of a residence in the 100 block of N. Sadler in Sayre, Okla. When officers entered the home, they found Burden inside deceased. They also discovered his pick-up truck was missing. Burden’s dog had been shot but survived.

Investigators linked the two cases and put out a statewide “be on the lookout” for the missing truck. Just after midnight on April 22, 2019, Tulsa police officers pulled over a truck matching the description, despite the license plate not matching. Killough was behind the wheel and officers also found a handgun inside the vehicle. Tulsa police officers took Killough into custody.

Killough was arrested by the OSBI and the Elk City Police Department on April 24, 2019 and brought back to Beckham County to face charges.

The OSBI and Elk City Police Department would like to thank the Tulsa Police Department (TPD) and detectives with the TBD homicide unit for their support during the investigation.
