Advisory

Sebastopol man arrested for brandishing a firearm on Wednesday.

Yesterday, at about 5:15 pm, an Analy High School parent called the Sebastopol Police Department to report that about an hour earlier his son and a friend were in front of the campus waiting to be picked up after school. While the boys waited, they were approached by a Hispanic male young adult driving a silver Nissan sedan.

The driver asked the boys if they knew of a student that he was looking for. The driver brandished a firearm inside the vehicle and told the boys to tell the other student he was looking for him and then drove away. The firearm was described as a short rifle, similar to an Uzi. The driver was described as a Hispanic male adult with dark hair and slender build, in his late teens or early twenties.

Officers searched the campus and surrounding area but due to the late report, did not find the vehicle or suspect.

Just after 8:00 pm, SPD dispatch received a call from someone concerned for a friend’s emotional state, based upon text messages he sent earlier regarding a gun. Officers went to 7725 Bodega Avenue to check the welfare of the friend and found a silver Nissan sedan parked in the apartment complex parking area, occupied by 19-year-old Esgar Cabrera Salcedo.

Officers evaluated Cabrera Salcedo and determined he was not in need of mental health services, but based on his physical description and the associated vehicle determined he was likely involved in the earlier incident at Analy High School. The nearby registered owner of the vehicle consented to a search of the Nissan sedan. Officers located an unregistered AR15 rifle, loaded with a high capacity magazine, inside the passenger area of the vehicle, along with a set of handcuffs and a mask.

Cabrera Salcedo told officers that he was at the Analy campus earlier in the day looking for someone specific and was upset over a recent argument. He denied intending to harm anyone. After further interviewing Cabrera Salcedo, officers believed there was no other immediate threat to campus safety related to this event.

Cabrera Salcedo was arrested for a variety of firearm-related charges and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
